The elder, to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not I only, but also all those who know the truth,
- 2
for the truth’s sake, which remains in us, and it will be with us forever:
- 3
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
- 4
I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.
- 5
Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
- 6
This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
- 7
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.
- 8
Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.
- 9
Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

If anyone comes to you and doesn’t bring this teaching, don’t receive him into your house, and don’t welcome him,
- 11
for he who welcomes him participates in his evil deeds.

Having many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you and to speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.

The children of your chosen sister greet you. Amen.

O presbítero, à senhora eleita e aos seus filhos, a quem amo na verdade, e não apenas eu, mas também todos os que conhecem a verdade,

por causa da verdade que permanece em nós, e estará conosco para sempre:
- 3
A graça, a misericórdia e a paz estarão conosco, da parte de Deus Pai e da parte do Senhor Jesus Cristo, o Filho do Pai, em verdade e amor.

Alegrei-me grandemente por ter encontrado alguns dos seus filhos andando na verdade, assim como recebemos o mandamento do Pai.

E agora lhe peço, senhora, não como se escrevesse a você um novo mandamento, mas aquele que tínhamos desde o princípio: que amemos uns aos outros.
- 6
E o amor é este: que andemos segundo os seus mandamentos. Este é o mandamento, assim como vocês ouviram desde o princípio, para que andem nele.

Pois muitos enganadores têm saído pelo mundo, os quais não confessam que Jesus Cristo veio em carne. Este é o enganador e o Anticristo.
- 8
Cuidem de vocês mesmos, para que não percamos as coisas que realizamos, mas para que recebamos a plena recompensa.
- 9
Todo aquele que transgride e não permanece no ensino de Cristo não tem a Deus. Aquele que permanece no ensino tem tanto o Pai como o Filho.

Se alguém for até vocês e não trouxer este ensino, não o recebam em sua casa, e não o saúdem,
- 11
pois aquele que o saúda participa das suas obras más.
- 12
Tendo muitas coisas para lhes escrever, não quero fazê-lo com papel e tinta, mas espero ir até vocês e falar face a face, para que a nossa alegria seja completa.
- 13
Os filhos da sua irmã eleita a saúdam. Amém.
