Jeremiah 39

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and besieged it.

In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.

All the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate: Nergal Sharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim the Rabsaris, Nergal Sharezer the Rabmag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.

When Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled and went out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the Arabah.

But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. When they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; and he pronounced judgment on him.

Then the king of Babylon killed Zedekiah’s sons in Riblah before his eyes. The king of Babylon also killed all the nobles of Judah.

Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.

The Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the people’s houses with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the rest of the people who remained in the city, the deserters also who fell away to him, and the rest of the people who remained.

But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon commanded Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard concerning Jeremiah, saying,
- 12
“Take him and take care of him. Do him no harm; but do to him even as he tells you.”
- 13
So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, Nebushazban, Rabsaris, and Nergal Sharezer, Rabmag, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon
- 14
sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should bring him home. So he lived among the people.

Now the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying,
- 16
“Go, and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, ‘The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they will be accomplished before you in that day.
- 17
But I will deliver you in that day,” says the LORD; “and you will not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid.
- 18
For I will surely save you. You won’t fall by the sword, but you will escape with your life, because you have put your trust in me,” says the LORD.’”

No nono ano de Zedequias, rei de Judá, no décimo mês, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e todo o seu exército vieram contra Jerusalém e a sitiaram.

No décimo primeiro ano de Zedequias, no quarto mês, no nono dia do mês, uma brecha foi aberta na cidade.

Todos os príncipes do rei da Babilônia entraram e se assentaram na porta do meio: Nergal-Sarezer, Sangar-Nebo, Sarsequim, o Rabe-Sáris, Nergal-Sarezer, o Rabe-Mague, com todo o restante dos príncipes do rei da Babilônia.

Quando Zedequias, rei de Judá, e todos os homens de guerra os viram, eles fugiram e saíram da cidade de noite, pelo caminho do jardim do rei, pela porta entre os dois muros; e ele saiu em direção à Arabá.

Mas o exército dos caldeus os perseguiu e alcançou Zedequias nas planícies de Jericó. Quando o prenderam, eles o levaram a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, em Ribla, na terra de Hamate; e ele pronunciou julgamento sobre ele.

Então o rei da Babilônia matou os filhos de Zedequias em Ribla, diante dos seus olhos. O rei da Babilônia também matou todos os nobres de Judá.

Além disso, ele furou os olhos de Zedequias e o prendeu com grilhões, para levá-lo à Babilônia.
- 8
Os caldeus queimaram a casa do rei e as casas do povo com fogo, e derrubaram os muros de Jerusalém.

Então Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, levou cativos para a Babilônia o restante do povo que havia ficado na cidade, como também os desertores que haviam passado para o seu lado, e o restante do povo que havia ficado.

Mas Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, deixou na terra de Judá alguns dos mais pobres do povo, que não tinham nada, e lhes deu vinhas e campos naquela mesma ocasião.

Ora, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, deu ordens a Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, a respeito de Jeremias, dizendo:
- 12
“Tome-o e cuide bem dele. Não lhe faça nenhum mal; mas faça com ele exatamente como ele lhe disser.”
- 13
Então Nebuzaradã, o capitão da guarda, Nebusazbã, Rabe-Sáris, e Nergal-Sarezer, Rabe-Mague, e todos os oficiais principais do rei da Babilônia
- 14
mandaram tirar Jeremias do pátio da guarda e o entregaram a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã, para que o levasse para casa. Assim, ele habitou entre o povo.

Ora, a palavra do SENHOR veio a Jeremias enquanto ele estava preso no pátio da guarda, dizendo:
- 16
“Vá e fale a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, dizendo: 'Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: “Eis que trarei as minhas palavras sobre esta cidade para o mal, e não para o bem; e elas se cumprirão diante de você naquele dia.
- 17
Mas eu o livrarei naquele dia”, diz o SENHOR; “e você não será entregue nas mãos dos homens de quem você tem medo.
- 18
Pois eu certamente o salvarei. Você não cairá à espada, mas escapará com a sua vida, porque você colocou a sua confiança em mim”, diz o SENHOR.'”
