When Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all the words of the LORD their God, with which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
- 2
then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely. The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You shall not go into Egypt to live there;’

but Baruch the son of Neriah has turned you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death or carry us away captive to Babylon.”

So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, didn’t obey the LORD’s voice, to dwell in the land of Judah.

But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, who had returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to live in the land of Judah—
- 6
the men, the women, the children, the king’s daughters, and every person who Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.

They came into the land of Egypt, for they didn’t obey the LORD’s voice; and they came to Tahpanhes.
- 8
Then the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,
- 9
“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.
- 10
Tell them, the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hidden; and he will spread his royal pavilion over them.

He will come, and will strike the land of Egypt; such as are for death will be put to death, and such as are for captivity to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.
- 12
I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt. He will burn them, and carry them away captive. He will array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he will go out from there in peace.

He will also break the pillars of Beth Shemesh that is in the land of Egypt; and he will burn the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.’”

Quando Jeremias terminou de falar a todo o povo todas as palavras do SENHOR, o Deus deles, com as quais o SENHOR, o Deus deles, o havia enviado a eles, a saber, todas estas palavras,

então Azarias, filho de Hosaías, Joanã, filho de Careá, e todos os homens arrogantes falaram, dizendo a Jeremias: “Você está mentindo. O SENHOR, nosso Deus, não o enviou para dizer: ‘Vocês não devem ir ao Egito para morar lá’;
- 3
mas Baruque, filho de Nerias, o instigou contra nós, para nos entregar nas mãos dos caldeus, a fim de que nos matem ou nos levem cativos para a Babilônia.”

Assim Joanã, filho de Careá, e todos os comandantes das tropas, e todo o povo, não obedeceram à voz do SENHOR para permanecerem na terra de Judá.

Mas Joanã, filho de Careá, e todos os comandantes das tropas tomaram todo o remanescente de Judá, que havia retornado de todas as nações para onde haviam sido expulsos, para viver na terra de Judá—
- 6
os homens, as mulheres, as crianças, as filhas do rei, e toda pessoa que Nebuzaradã, o comandante da guarda, havia deixado com Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã; e o profeta Jeremias, e Baruque, filho de Nerias.

Eles entraram na terra do Egito, pois não obedeceram à voz do SENHOR; e chegaram a Tafnes.
- 8
Então a palavra do SENHOR veio a Jeremias em Tafnes, dizendo:
- 9
“Tome pedras grandes em suas mãos e esconda-as na argamassa do pavimento de tijolos que está na entrada do palácio do faraó em Tafnes, à vista dos homens de Judá.
- 10
Diga-lhes: Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: ‘Eis que enviarei e trarei Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, meu servo, e estabelecerei o seu trono sobre estas pedras que escondi; e ele estenderá o seu pavilhão real sobre elas.

Ele virá e atacará a terra do Egito; os que são para a morte, para a morte; os que são para o cativeiro, para o cativeiro; e os que são para a espada, para a espada.
- 12
Eu acenderei um fogo nos templos dos deuses do Egito. Ele os queimará e os levará cativos. Ele se vestirá com a terra do Egito, assim como um pastor veste o seu manto; e ele sairá de lá em paz.
- 13
Ele também quebrará as colunas de Bete-Semes, que fica na terra do Egito; e queimará com fogo os templos dos deuses do Egito.’”
