Job 25
Bildad's reply is the shortest speech in the book, just five verses, and the last thing any friend will say to Job. He cannot answer the catalog of injustice from chapter 24, so he retreats to sheer scale: dominion and fear belong to God, his armies are uncountable, his light reaches all. From that height he draws the old conclusion, that no one born of woman can be clean. The rhetorical descent in verses 5 to 6 is brutal: if even the moon and stars are not pure in God's sight, then man is a worm. It ends the friends' arguments not with proof but with a shrug toward human worthlessness.

Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
- 2
“Dominion and fear are with him. He makes peace in his high places.
- 3
Can his armies be counted? On whom does his light not arise?
- 4
How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?
- 5
Behold, even the moon has no brightness, and the stars are not pure in his sight;
- 6
How much less man, who is a worm, and the son of man, who is a worm!”
When the cycle runs out of words
Bildad reaches for cosmic majesty, the peace God makes in his high places, the light no one escapes, to overwhelm Job's pointed questions. But majesty was never in dispute; Job himself has praised God's power. The friends simply have no reply to the moral problem he raised.
Zophar never speaks a third time, and the dialogue collapses here. This thin speech marks the exhaustion of the retribution argument, clearing the stage for Job's long final defense and, eventually, God's own voice from the whirlwind.
