Job again took up his parable, and said,
- 2
“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
- 3
when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
- 4
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
- 5
when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
- 6
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
- 7
when I went out to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.

The young men saw me and hid themselves. The aged rose up and stood.
- 9
The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
- 10
The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.

For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it commended me,
- 12
because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had no one to help him,
- 13
the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.
- 15
I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.
- 16
I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him whom I didn’t know.
- 17
I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
- 18
Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.
- 19
My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.
- 20
My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.’

“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
- 22
After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.
- 23
They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.
- 24
I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.

I chose out their way, and sat as chief. I lived as a king in the army, as one who comforts the mourners.

“Oh, que eu era como nos meses de antigüidade, como nos dias em que Deus cuidava de mim;
- 3
quando sua lâmpada brilhou em minha cabeça, e por sua luz eu caminhei através da escuridão,
- 4
como eu estava no meu auge, quando a amizade de Deus estava em minha tenda,
- 5
when o Todo-Poderoso ainda estava comigo, e meus filhos estavam ao meu redor,
- 6
when meus passos foram lavados com manteiga, e as rochas despejaram correntes de óleo para mim,
- 7
quando eu saí para o portão da cidade, quando preparei meu assento na rua.
- 8
Os jovens me viram e se esconderam. Os idosos se levantaram e se levantaram.
- 9
Os príncipes se abstiveram de falar, e colocaram sua mão na boca.
- 10
A voz dos nobres foi abafada, e sua língua grudada no céu da boca.
- 11
Pois quando o ouvido me ouviu, então ele me abençoou, e quando o olho me viu, ele me elogiou,
- 12
porque eu entreguei os pobres que choraram, e também os órfãos de pai, que não tinham ninguém que o ajudasse,
- 13
a bênção daquele que estava pronto para perecer veio sobre mim, e eu fiz com que o coração da viúva cantasse de alegria.

I me vestiu de retidão, e me vestiu. Minha justiça era como um manto e um diadema.
- 15
Eu estava de olho nos cegos, e pés para o coxo.
- 16
Eu era um pai para os necessitados. Pesquisei a causa dele que eu não conhecia.
- 17
Eu quebrei as mandíbulas dos injustos e arrancou a presa de seus dentes.
- 18
Então eu disse: 'Eu vou morrer em minha própria casa', Vou contar meus dias como a areia.
- 19
Minha raiz está espalhada pelas águas. O orvalho fica a noite toda na minha filial.
- 20
Minha glória está fresca em mim. Meu arco está renovado em minha mão”.

“Os homens me escutaram, esperaram, e mantive silêncio para meu conselho.
- 22
Depois das minhas palavras, eles não voltaram a falar. Meu discurso caiu sobre eles.
- 23
Eles esperaram por mim como pela chuva. Suas bocas bebiam como com a chuva da primavera.
- 24
Eu sorria para eles quando eles não tinham confiança. Eles não rejeitaram a luz do meu rosto.
- 25
Eu escolhi seu caminho, e sentei-me como chefe. Eu vivi como um rei no exército, como alguém que conforta as carpideiras.
