Revelation 20
An angel with the key of the abyss binds the dragon — named here as "the old serpent, the devil and Satan" — for a thousand years. The martyrs who refused the beast's mark live and reign with Christ in what the text calls the first resurrection, while the rest of the dead wait. After the thousand years Satan is released, deceives Gog and Magog, and is consumed by fire before being thrown into the lake of fire. Then comes the great white throne: the dead, great and small, stand as books are opened, judged by their works, with the book of life decisive. Death and Hades themselves are thrown into the lake — "the second death."

I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

He seized the dragon, the old serpent, who is the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole inhabited earth, and bound him for a thousand years,

and cast him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more until the thousand years were finished. After this, he must be freed for a short time.

I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and such as didn’t worship the beast nor his image, and didn’t receive the mark on their forehead and on their hand. They lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

The rest of the dead didn’t live until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over these, the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with him one thousand years.

And after the thousand years, Satan will be released from his prison

and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war, whose number is as the sand of the sea.

They went up over the width of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. Fire came down out of heaven from God and devoured them.

The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are also. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

I saw a great white throne and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the sky fled away. There was found no place for them.

I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works.

The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works.

Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.

If anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

Vi as almas daqueles que foram decapitados por causa do testemunho de Jesus e da palavra de Deus, e daqueles que não adoraram a besta nem a sua imagem, e não receberam a marca em suas testas nem em suas mãos. Eles viveram e reinaram com Cristo durante mil anos.

Os demais mortos não viveram até que os mil anos se completassem. Esta é a primeira ressurreição.

Bem-aventurado e santo é aquele que tem parte na primeira ressurreição. Sobre estes a segunda morte não tem autoridade, mas eles serão sacerdotes de Deus e de Cristo, e reinarão com ele por mil anos.

Quando se completarem os mil anos, Satanás será solto de sua prisão,

e sairá para enganar as nações que estão nos quatro cantos da terra, Gogue e Magogue, a fim de reuni-las para a guerra; o número delas é como a areia do mar.

Eles subiram pela largura da terra e cercaram o acampamento dos santos e a cidade amada. Mas desceu fogo do céu, da parte de Deus, e os devorou.

O diabo, que os enganava, foi lançado no lago de fogo e enxofre, onde também estão a besta e o falso profeta. E eles serão atormentados de dia e de noite, para todo o sempre.

Vi um grande trono branco e aquele que estava assentado nele, de cuja presença fugiram a terra e o céu. E não se achou lugar para eles.

Vi os mortos, grandes e pequenos, em pé diante do trono, e livros foram abertos. Outro livro foi aberto, que é o livro da vida. Os mortos foram julgados pelas coisas que estavam escritas nos livros, segundo as suas obras.

O mar entregou os mortos que nele havia. A Morte e o Hades entregaram os mortos que neles havia. E foram julgados, cada um segundo as suas obras.

The phrase that splits interpreters
This is the only chapter in the Bible to mention a thousand-year reign, and it states it plainly six times without explaining its nature — which is why "the millennium" became one of Scripture's most contested ideas. The text gives a sequence (binding, reign, release, final revolt, judgment) but no calendar.
Notice the structural pairing it does spell out: the "first resurrection" protects its sharers from "the second death." Those two phrases, not the thousand years alone, carry the chapter's actual promise — that for those in the book of life, the lake of fire has no claim.
