Salmos 81
Abre como una fiesta: trompeta en luna nueva y luna llena, pandero, salterio y arpa, un estatuto puesto en José (vv.1-5). Luego, a mitad del poema, la voz cambia — Dios mismo habla, recordando el alivio de la carga y la prueba en Meriba. La celebración se vuelve queja. «Mi pueblo no oyó mi voz» (v.11), así que Dios lo dejó andar en sus propios consejos. Observe el giro de la fiesta a una bendición retenida.

Por testimonio en José lo ha constituído, cuando salió por la tierra de Egipto; donde oí lenguaje que no entendía.

Aparté su hombro de debajo de la carga; sus manos se quitaron de vasijas de barro.

En la calamidad clamaste, y yo te libré: te respondí en el secreto del trueno; te probé sobre las aguas de Meriba. (Selah.)

No habrá en ti dios ajeno, ni te encorvarás á dios extraño.

Yo soy Jehová tu Dios, que te hice subir de la tierra de Egipto: ensancha tu boca, y henchirla he.

Mas mi pueblo no oyó mi voz, é Israel no me quiso á mí.

Dejélos por tanto á la dureza de su corazón: caminaron en sus consejos.

¡Oh, si me hubiera oído mi pueblo, si en mis caminos hubiera Israel andado!

En una nada habría yo derribado sus enemigos, y vuelto mi mano sobre sus adversarios.

Los aborrecedores de Jehová se le hubieran sometido; y el tiempo de ellos fuera para siempre.

Y Dios lo hubiera mantenido de grosura de trigo: y de miel de la piedra te hubiera saciado.

Sing aloud to God, our strength! Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob!

Raise a song, and bring here the tambourine, the pleasant lyre with the harp.

Blow the trumpet at the New Moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.

For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

He appointed it in Joseph for a covenant, when he went out over the land of Egypt, I heard a language that I didn’t know.

“I removed his shoulder from the burden. His hands were freed from the basket.

You called in trouble, and I delivered you. I answered you in the secret place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Meribah.” Selah.

“Hear, my people, and I will testify to you, Israel, if you would listen to me!

There shall be no strange god in you, neither shall you worship any foreign god.
- 10
I am the LORD, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

But my people didn’t listen to my voice. Israel desired none of me.

So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.
- 13
Oh that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!
- 14
I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their adversaries.
- 15
The haters of the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.
- 16
But he would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat. I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”
Una boca abierta, sin llenar
La oferta de Dios es vívida: «ensancha tu boca, y henchirla he» (v.10). La tragedia del salmo es que Israel no quiso nada de él, y la promesa queda sin reclamar.
El final es el camino no tomado: si hubieran oído, Dios habría sometido a sus enemigos y los habría sustentado «con lo mejor del trigo» y «miel de la peña» (vv.14-16). El marco festivo hace doler la abundancia perdida.
