Salmos 91
Un salmo de amparo construido con imágenes de refugio: el que habita al abrigo del Altísimo morará bajo la sombra del Omnipotente, cubierto con sus plumas, abrigado bajo sus alas. Los peligros que nombra son concretos, de noche y de día, pestilencia y saeta.

EL que habita al abrigo del Altísimo, morará bajo la sombra del Omnipotente.

Diré yo á Jehová: Esperanza mía, y castillo mío; mi Dios, en él confiaré.
- 3
Y él te librará del lazo del cazador: de la peste destruidora.
- 4
Con sus plumas te cubrirá, y debajo de sus alas estarás seguro: escudo y adarga es su verdad.
- 5
No tendrás temor de espanto nocturno, ni de saeta que vuele de día;
- 6
Ni de pestilencia que ande en oscuridad, ni de mortandad que en medio del día destruya.
- 7
Caerán á tu lado mil, y diez mil á tu diestra: mas á ti no llegará.
- 8
Ciertamente con tus ojos mirarás, y verás la recompensa de los impíos.
- 9
Porque tú has puesto á Jehová, que es mi esperanza, al Altísimo por tu habitación,
- 10
No te sobrevendrá mal, ni plaga tocará tu morada.
- 11
Pues que á sus ángeles mandará acerca de ti, que te guarden en todos tus caminos.
- 12
En las manos te llevarán, porque tu pie no tropiece en piedra.
- 13
Sobre el león y el basilisco pisarás; hollarás al cachorro del león y al dragón.
- 14
Por cuanto en mí ha puesto su voluntad, yo también lo libraré: pondrélo en alto, por cuanto ha conocido mi nombre.

Me invocará, y yo le responderé: con él estaré yo en la angustia: lo libraré, y le glorificaré.

Saciarélo de larga vida, y mostraréle mi salud.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
- 6
nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday.
- 7
A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you.
- 8
You will only look with your eyes, and see the recompense of the wicked.
- 9
Because you have made the LORD your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,
- 10
no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.
- 11
For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.
- 12
They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.
- 13
You will tread on the lion and cobra. You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.
- 14
“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name.
- 15
He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.
- 16
I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”
Un cambio de voz
Durante casi todo el salmo una voz asegura al oyente: no te sobrevendrá mal, a sus ángeles mandará que te guarden, para que tu pie no tropiece en piedra. La promesa de los versículos 11 y 12 es el mismo pasaje citado luego en los relatos de la tentación.
En el versículo 14 quien habla cambia a Dios mismo: por cuanto en mí ha puesto su voluntad, yo lo libraré. El amparo se sella al fin no con la voz humana, sino con una promesa divina en primera persona de larga vida y salvación.
