Isaiah 62

The speaker refuses silence "for Zion's sake" until her vindication blazes like dawn. The heart of the chapter is renaming: the city once called Forsaken and her land Desolate are given new names, Hephzibah and Beulah — "My delight is in her" and "Married." Notice the marriage language threading through. Builders and watchmen are set on the walls precisely to keep pestering God, allowed "no rest" until Jerusalem becomes a praise on earth. It is insistence presented as a virtue.

For Zion’s sake I will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning lamp.

The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You will be called by a new name, which the LORD’s mouth will name.
3
You will also be a crown of beauty in the LORD’s hand, and a royal diadem in your God’s hand.
4
You will not be called Forsaken any more, nor will your land be called Desolate any more; but you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD delights in you, and your land will be married.
5
For as a young man marries a virgin, so your sons will marry you. As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.
6
I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. They will never be silent day nor night. You who call on the LORD, take no rest,
7
and give him no rest until he establishes, and until he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

The LORD has sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, “Surely I will no more give your grain to be food for your enemies, and foreigners will not drink your new wine, for which you have labored,
9
but those who have harvested it will eat it, and praise the LORD. Those who have gathered it will drink it in the courts of my sanctuary.”
10
Go through, go through the gates! Prepare the way of the people! Build up, build up the highway! Gather out the stones! Lift up a banner for the peoples.

Behold, the LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth: “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your salvation comes! Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him!’”

They will call them “The Holy People, The LORD’s Redeemed”. You will be called “Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken”.

Por amor de Sião eu não me calarei, e por amor de Jerusalém não descansarei, até que a sua justiça brilhe como a aurora, e a sua salvação como uma tocha acesa.

As nações verão a sua justiça, e todos os reis a sua glória. Você será chamada por um novo nome, que a boca do SENHOR nomeará.

Você também será uma coroa de beleza na mão do SENHOR, e um diadema real na mão do seu Deus.

Você não será mais chamada de Desamparada, nem a sua terra será mais chamada de Desolada; mas você será chamada de Hefzibá, e a sua terra de Beulá; pois o SENHOR se agrada de você, e a sua terra será casada.

Pois assim como um jovem se casa com uma virgem, assim os seus filhos se casarão com você. Como o noivo se alegra com a sua noiva, assim o seu Deus se alegrará com você.

Coloquei sentinelas sobre os seus muros, Jerusalém. Eles jamais se calarão, nem de dia nem de noite. Vocês que invocam o SENHOR, não descansem,

e não lhe deem descanso até que ele estabeleça, e até que faça de Jerusalém um louvor na terra.

O SENHOR jurou por sua mão direita, e pelo braço da sua força: “Certamente não darei mais o seu trigo para ser alimento dos seus inimigos, e os estrangeiros não beberão o seu vinho novo, pelo qual você trabalhou,

mas aqueles que o colheram o comerão, e louvarão ao SENHOR. Aqueles que o ajuntaram o beberão nos átrios do meu santuário.”

Passem, passem pelos portões! Preparem o caminho do povo! Construam, construam a estrada! Removam as pedras! Levantem um estandarte para os povos.

Eis que o SENHOR proclamou até os confins da terra: “Digam à filha de Sião: ‘Eis que a sua salvação vem! Eis que a sua recompensa está com ele, e a sua retribuição diante dele!’”

Eles os chamarão de “O Povo Santo, Os Redimidos do SENHOR”. Você será chamada de “Procurada, Uma Cidade Não Desamparada”.

Names that overturn a verdict

Forsaken and Desolate were not insults but the lived reality of an emptied, conquered city. Verse 4 cancels them by decree, and verse 12 closes with the counter-names "Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken."

The closing command — go through the gates, build the highway, lift a banner — turns the renamed city outward. Where chapter 61 dressed the mourner, this chapter re-titles the whole place and opens its road.
