“Behold, my eye has seen all this. My ear has heard and understood it.

What you know, I know also. I am not inferior to you.

“Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God.
- 4
But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value.
- 5
Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise.
- 6
Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips.
- 7
Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?
- 8
Will you show partiality to him? Will you contend for God?
- 9
Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?
- 10
He will surely reprove you if you secretly show partiality.
- 11
Won’t his majesty make you afraid and his dread fall on you?
- 12
Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes. Your defenses are defenses of clay.

“Be silent! Leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will.
- 14
Why should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?
- 15
Behold, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.

This also will be my salvation, that a godless man will not come before him.
- 17
Listen carefully to my speech. Let my declaration be in your ears.

See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.

Who is he who will contend with me? For then I would hold my peace and give up the spirit.

“Only don’t do two things to me, then I will not hide myself from your face:
- 21
withdraw your hand far from me, and don’t let your terror make me afraid.
- 22
Then call, and I will answer, or let me speak, and you answer me.
- 23
How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my disobedience and my sin.
- 24
Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?
- 25
Will you harass a driven leaf? Will you pursue the dry stubble?
- 26
For you write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth.

You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet,

though I am decaying like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.

“Eis que os meus olhos viram tudo isso. Meus ouvidos ouviram e entenderam.

O que vocês sabem, eu também sei. Não sou inferior a vocês.

“Certamente eu falaria ao Todo-Poderoso. Eu desejo argumentar com Deus.

Mas vocês são forjadores de mentiras. Todos vocês são médicos sem valor.

Quem dera vocês ficassem completamente calados! Então vocês seriam sábios.

Ouçam agora o meu raciocínio. Escutem os pleitos dos meus lábios.

Vocês falarão injustamente por Deus, e falarão enganosamente por ele?

Vocês mostrarão parcialidade para com ele? Vocês contenderão por Deus?

Seria bom se ele os examinasse a fundo? Ou, como se engana um homem, vocês o enganariam?
- 10
Ele certamente os repreenderá se em segredo vocês mostrarem parcialidade.

A sua majestade não os amedrontará, e o pavor dele não cairá sobre vocês?
- 12
Suas frases memoráveis são provérbios de cinzas. Suas defesas são defesas de barro.

“Fiquem calados! Deixem-me em paz, para que eu possa falar. E que venha sobre mim o que vier.
- 14
Por que eu levaria a minha carne nos dentes, e colocaria a minha vida nas minhas mãos?
- 15
Eis que ele me matará. Eu não tenho esperança. Mesmo assim, defenderei os meus caminhos diante dele.

Isso também será a minha salvação, pois um ímpio não comparecerá diante dele.

Ouçam com atenção as minhas palavras. Que a minha declaração esteja em seus ouvidos.

Vejam agora, eu preparei a minha causa. Eu sei que sou justo.

Quem é aquele que contenderá comigo? Pois então eu me calaria e entregaria o espírito.

“Apenas não faça duas coisas comigo, então não me esconderei da sua face:
- 21
retire a sua mão para longe de mim, e não deixe que o seu terror me amedronte.

Então chame, e eu responderei; ou deixe-me falar, e você me responde.

Quantas são as minhas iniquidades e pecados? Faça-me conhecer a minha desobediência e o meu pecado.

Por que você esconde a sua face, e me considera seu inimigo?
- 25
Você atormentará uma folha levada pelo vento? Você perseguirá a palha seca?

Pois você escreve coisas amargas contra mim, e me faz herdar as iniquidades da minha juventude.

Você também coloca os meus pés no tronco, e observa todos os meus caminhos. Você traça um limite para as solas dos meus pés,

embora eu me consuma como algo podre, como uma roupa comida por traças.
