Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,

in hope of eternal life, which God, who can’t lie, promised before time began;
3
but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior,
4
to Titus, my true child according to a common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you—
6
if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior.
7
For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;
8
but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled,
9
holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.
10
For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11
whose mouths must be stopped: men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake.
12
One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons.”
13
This testimony is true. For this cause, reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
14
not paying attention to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
15
To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
16
They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.

Paulo, servo de Deus e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, segundo a fé dos escolhidos de Deus e o conhecimento da verdade que é segundo a piedade,

na esperança da vida eterna, que Deus, que não pode mentir, prometeu antes do tempo;
3
mas em seu próprio tempo revelou sua palavra na mensagem que me foi confiada segundo o mandamento de Deus nosso Salvador,
4
a Tito, meu verdadeiro filho segundo uma fé comum: Graça, misericórdia e paz da parte de Deus Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador.

Deixei-o em Creta por esta razão, que você colocaria em ordem as coisas que faltavam e nomearia anciãos em cada cidade, como lhe indiquei -

se alguém é irrepreensível, o marido de uma esposa, tendo filhos que acreditam, que não são acusados de comportamento solto ou indisciplinado.

Pois o superintendente deve ser irrepreensível, como o mordomo de Deus, não se agradando a si mesmo, não se enfurece facilmente, não se dá ao vinho, não é violento, não é ganancioso pelo ganho desonesto;
8
mas dado à hospitalidade, amante do bem, sóbrio, justo, santo, autocontrolado,
9
agarrado à palavra fiel que está de acordo com o ensinamento, para que ele possa exortar na sã doutrina, e condenar aqueles que o contradizem.
10
Pois há também muitos homens indisciplinados, vaidosos e enganadores, especialmente os da circuncisão,
11
cujas bocas devem ser tapadas: homens que derrubam casas inteiras, ensinando coisas que não deveriam, por uma questão de ganho desonesto.
12
Um deles, um profeta próprio, disse: “Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, bestas más e glutões ociosos”.
13
Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Por esta causa, repreenda-os severamente, para que sejam sãos na fé,
14
não prestando atenção às fábulas judaicas e aos mandamentos dos homens que se afastam da verdade.
15
Para os puros, todas as coisas são puras, mas para aqueles que estão sujos e descrentes, nada é puro; mas tanto sua mente quanto sua consciência estão sujas.
16
Eles professam que conhecem Deus, mas por seus atos o negam, sendo abomináveis, desobedientes e impróprios para qualquer boa obra.
