Apocalipse 8

O sétimo selo não abre um clímax, mas um silêncio no céu por cerca de meia hora. Depois sete anjos recebem sete trombetas, e outro anjo oferece incenso com as orações dos santos antes de lançar fogo do altar de volta à terra. Aqui tocam quatro trombetas, e cada uma atinge um terço: a terra, o mar, as águas doces e os astros do céu. Repare na fracção que se repete e na águia que grita três vezes "Ai!", a avisar que faltam as piores.

Quando ele abriu o sétimo selo, houve silêncio no céu por cerca de meia hora.

Vi os sete anjos que estão em pé diante de Deus, e lhes foram dadas sete trombetas.

Outro anjo veio e ficou em pé junto ao altar, tendo um incensário de ouro. Foi-lhe dado muito incenso, para que o oferecesse com as orações de todos os santos sobre o altar de ouro que estava diante do trono.

A fumaça do incenso, com as orações dos santos, subiu da mão do anjo à presença de Deus.

O anjo pegou o incensário, encheu-o com o fogo do altar, e o lançou sobre a terra. E seguiram-se trovões, vozes, relâmpagos e um terremoto.

Os sete anjos que tinham as sete trombetas prepararam-se para tocar.

O primeiro tocou a sua trombeta, e seguiu-se granizo e fogo, misturados com sangue, e foram lançados sobre a terra. Um terço da terra foi queimado, e um terço das árvores foi queimado, e toda a grama verde foi queimada.

O segundo anjo tocou a sua trombeta, e algo como uma grande montanha em chamas foi lançado no mar. Um terço do mar tornou-se sangue,

e morreu um terço das criaturas viventes que estavam no mar. E um terço dos navios foi destruído.

O terceiro anjo tocou a sua trombeta, e caiu do céu uma grande estrela, queimando como uma tocha, e caiu sobre um terço dos rios, e sobre as fontes de água.

O nome da estrela é “Absinto”. Um terço das águas tornou-se absinto. Muitas pessoas morreram das águas, porque se tornaram amargas.

O quarto anjo tocou a sua trombeta, e foi ferido um terço do sol, um terço da lua e um terço das estrelas, para que um terço deles escurecesse; e o dia não brilhou durante um terço dele, e a noite da mesma forma.

Olhei, e ouvi uma águia, voando no meio do céu, dizendo com grande voz: “Ai! Ai! Ai dos que habitam na terra, por causa dos outros toques de trombeta dos três anjos que ainda estão para tocar!”

When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.

Another angel came and stood over the altar, having a golden censer. Much incense was given to him, that he should add it to the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne.

The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand.

The angel took the censer, and he filled it with the fire of the altar, then threw it on the earth. Thunders, sounds, lightnings, and an earthquake followed.

The seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

The first sounded, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. One third of the earth was burned up, and one third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

The second angel sounded, and something like a great burning mountain was thrown into the sea. One third of the sea became blood,

and one third of the living creatures which were in the sea died. One third of the ships were destroyed.

The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch, and it fell on one third of the rivers, and on the springs of water.

The name of the star is “Wormwood.” One third of the waters became wormwood. Many people died from the waters, because they were made bitter.

The fourth angel sounded, and one third of the sun was struck, and one third of the moon, and one third of the stars, so that one third of them would be darkened; and the day wouldn’t shine for one third of it, and the night in the same way.

I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe! Woe! Woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the other blasts of the trumpets of the three angels, who are yet to sound!”

Porquê um terço, e porquê as orações primeiro

Onde os cavaleiros do capítulo 6 tomaram uma quarta parte, as trombetas ferem uma terça, e os alvos lembram as pragas do Egipto: granizo e fogo, um monte a arder que ensanguenta o mar, uma estrela chamada Absinto que envenena os rios. São avisos, parciais de propósito, ainda não o fim.

O eixo está no incensário dos versículos 3 a 5. Sobem as orações dos santos e depois o mesmo fogo é lançado à terra, de modo que as trombetas se leem como resposta ao "quanto falta?" dos mártires do capítulo 6, e não como catástrofe sem sentido.
